How One Man Could (Though Unlikely) Stop the Release of ‘Assassin’s Creed III’

Ezio is not pleased.

John Beiswenger, a man from Pennsylvania has decided to take on the French video game development company, Ubisoft and its Assassin’s Creed series in the form of a lawsuit. Beiswenger claims that Ubisoft has committed copyright infringement with the Assassin’s Creed games, and that the plot of the game series is significantly similar to his book Link, which was published in 2003. The Link author is asking for up to $5.25 million in damages. And the big news? Beiswenger is also requesting that a federal court prevent the release of Assassin’s Creed III, which is supposed to be sold in stores this coming October.

Do I honestly think one man could stop the release of Assassin’s Creed III? I’m not sure, but if he does, he’s asking for a heck of a lot of hate mail. It is possible that Beiswenger is just using this ‘lawsuit’ as a way to gain publicity for his book, which seems to be virtually unknown (He’s probably just upset that Ubisoft executed a ‘similar’ storyline successfully, since he’s pushing a 1-1 ½ star rating on Amazon and Google Books). He’s already getting ‘hate’ reviews on the internet, and I have a feeling this could reach some type of ‘internet meme’ status. If you need a good laugh, just check out the book’s Amazon page and read the newest reviews – some people actually read the book to see if it’s decent. And as a former Pennsylvania resident, I can tell you – only in Pa. would this happen. Only in PA.

In other gaming news, video game sales dropped 25% during the month of March. The reason? Sony is slow on the uptake, and they’ve figured out that the PS Vita is a step ‘back’ in the wrong direction. Mass Effect 3 was March’s top selling game, and it’s also the game that has left millions of gamers depressed and wondering what they’re doing with their lives. There is still hope though, as software and video game sales are expected to rise during the month of May, when Max Payne 3, Diablo III and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Future Soldier come out. And may I just say that this is definitely the year of the ‘threes’ in gaming.
